JERICHO · BETA

Android

Newest build

Download for Android

  1. Tap Download for Android on your phone.
  2. Open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow your browser to install apps.
  3. Already have Jericho? Installing over it keeps your hero. Later, Options → Check for updates tells you when a newer build is out.

If Android warns you

Jericho is in open beta and isn't on the Play Store yet, so Android treats it like any app downloaded from a website. The build is signed by us and is the same one our testers run. These are the three warnings you might see, and what to tap.

Chrome says File might be harmful

Chrome shows this for every app downloaded outside the Play Store. It isn't a sign that anything is wrong with the file.

  1. Tap Download anyway.
  2. When it finishes, tap Open in the download bar, or open it from Files → Downloads.
Your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source

Android asks you to allow installing, once, for the app you opened the file from (usually Chrome or Files).

  1. On that message, tap Settings.
  2. Turn on Allow from this source.
  3. Go back. The installer continues; tap Install.

No Settings button? Turn it on by hand, then open the file again:

  • Most phones: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps, pick Chrome (or Files), turn on Allow from this source.
  • Samsung: Settings → Apps → ⋮ → Special access → Install unknown apps.
  • Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO: Settings → Privacy protection → Special permissions → Install unknown apps.
  • Or search Settings for unknown apps.

You can turn it back off after installing; updates will ask again.

Play Protect says App blocked to protect your device

Google Play Protect doesn't recognise apps that aren't on the Play Store yet. Jericho reads only your step count, and asks for no SMS, contacts or accessibility access.

  1. Tap More details (the small arrow under the message).
  2. Tap Install anyway.

Only an OK button? Pause Play Protect's scan while you install, then turn it back on:

  1. Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Play Protect, then the gear icon.
  2. Turn off Scan apps with Play Protect.
  3. Open the Jericho file again and tap Install.
  4. Go back and turn Scan apps with Play Protect on again.

First run: sign in, then let Jericho read your steps

Jericho first asks you to sign in with Apple or Google: your hero is saved to your account, so a new phone picks up where the old one left off.

Jericho turns your walking into your hero's energy and experience, so it then asks to read your step count. Allow it, or your steps won't count. It reads steps only: no location, no heart rate, no other health data.

Android: Health Connect
  1. When Jericho asks, tap Allow (or Continue), then turn on Steps and tap Allow.
  2. If it also asks for Physical activity, tap Allow. That's the live step counter.

Tapped Don't allow, or no prompt appeared? Open Settings → Apps → Health Connect → App permissions → Jericho and turn on Steps. On some phones Health Connect is under Settings → Security and privacy → Privacy → Health Connect. Then open Jericho again.

No Health Connect? On Android 13 and older, install Health Connect from the Play Store first; it's built in from Android 14.

iPhone: Apple Health
  1. When the Health screen appears, turn on Steps (or tap Turn On All), then tap Allow.
  2. If it asks for Motion & Fitness, tap Allow. That's the live step counter.

Tapped Don't Allow? Open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps → Jericho and turn on Steps. For the live counter: Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → Jericho.

iPhone

iOS builds come through Apple's TestFlight (iOS 16.4 or newer). Install TestFlight, then open the join link on your iPhone and tap Accept, then Install. Open Jericho once, then close it and open it again: the first open downloads the newest version and the second runs it. If the join link opens inside Messenger, Facebook or Instagram and nothing happens, choose Open in Safari from the ••• menu.
